DEFRA offer £20,000 INTEREST FREE LOANS AVAILABLE TO FARMERS TO GO GREEN in a new scheme recently announced by Hilary Benn the Environment Secretary
DEFRA is offering British Farmers un-secured, interest free loans of up to £20,000 to invest in energy efficient equipment from February 2010. Farmers will have access to the loans provided by the CARBON TRUST to invest in green technologies.
The loans will help slash energy bills by £4 million and save approximately 25,000 Tonnes in Carbon every year. The loans are designed to pay for themselves within 4 years. A Wind Turbine has a design life of at least 20 years and with payback of under 5 years on some turbines you could expect to enjoy free energy and do your bit for the environment.
A word of caution - DEFRA have only allocated 12 Million on a first come first served basis. They anticipate that they will be able to help up to 1,000 Farmers and therefore I would stress the importance of acting quickly.
